Why send a thank-you email?
Many candidates don’t send one, so a short, specific thank-you helps you stand out. It shows good manners, reminds the interviewer who you are, and gives you one more chance to say why you are a strong fit.
Send it within 24 hours, ideally the same day. If you met several people, send each a short, slightly different note.
What makes a good thank-you email
- 1
Mention something specific. Refer to a topic you actually discussed. It proves the email isn’t copied and pasted.
- 2
Keep it brief. Two or three short paragraphs. The interviewer should be able to read it in under a minute.
- 3
Restate your fit once. One sentence on your strongest match for the role is enough.
- 4
Check the names. Spell the interviewer’s name and the company correctly. It matters more than you think.
